The University of Warwick (华威大学) sets four category bands for Chinese bachelor's degrees applying to 2027 master's courses that require a UK 2:1. The lowest minimum is 0.7 (Category 1); the highest is 0.88 (Category 4). Your required average depends on the category Warwick assigns to your institution.
The four category bands
Warwick's published China entry guidance uses these minimum scores for a UK 2:1 equivalent:
| Category | Minimum score required (UK 2:1 equivalent) |
|---|---|
| Category 1 | 0.7 |
| Category 2 | 0.75 |
| Category 3 | 0.8 |
| Category 4 | 0.88 |
These are the general thresholds. Some programmes accept a UK 2:2 honours or equivalent instead, and those courses set their own entry standard on the relevant programme page.
How to find your university's category
Warwick publishes a China University Acceptance List (2027 Entry) that shows the general category for each recognised Chinese institution. Open that list and locate your university to see its category, then match it to the score table above.
The list is the authoritative source for your category — do not assume a tier from rankings or reputation. If your institution is not on the list, check the specific programme page or contact the admissions office before applying.
Where the bar is higher
Warwick Law School sets separate entry requirements for some individual Chinese institutions. Those requirements appear in the list's appendix notes and may differ from the general category scores above.
For English, some faculties set higher requirements than the standard waiver rules allow. The final language condition is decided by the faculty and the admissions office.
Study modes that are not accepted
Not every Chinese qualification route clears Warwick's master's entry.
- Top-up programmes other than SQA 3+1 are not accepted.
- SQA 3+1 students who complete the UK bachelor's degree can apply, and need a 2:1 or equivalent.
- Domestic 专升本 (top-up from an associate college to a bachelor's degree) is currently not accepted for master's entry.
English language requirements and waivers
A full English-taught degree from a UKVI-certified, English-majority country can waive the English test, provided you apply for a postgraduate course within 2 years and 4 months of your course start date. Completing an SQA 3+1 top-up degree also qualifies for a waiver.
Some faculties require stronger English, so the waiver is never automatic — the faculty and admissions office make the final call.
Sino-foreign cooperative programmes
For joint (dual-degree) programmes, Warwick assesses the overseas degree grade. For single-degree cooperative programmes, applications are reviewed case by case.
How to self-check before applying
Open the Warwick China University Acceptance List (2027 Entry) on warwick.ac.uk. Find your institution in the list. Note the general category shown next to it. Check the minimum score for that category in the table above. Open your target programme's page on warwick.ac.uk. Confirm the specific entry requirement stated there. Contact the admissions office if your category or score is unclear.
Meeting the stated minimum does not guarantee admission. Every application is assessed individually, and the admissions office holds the final decision.
