St Andrews(圣安德鲁斯大学)does not publish one single entry score for applicants with a Chinese bachelor's degree. Its 2025 requirements are arranged in bands, and the percentage you need to clear depends on which band your awarding institution falls into. The lowest standard minimum in that table is 72%. The highest is 85%.
The bands and what they mean
Six minimum-result bands appear in the university's requirements table for 2025:
| Standard minimum | Share of listed institutions |
|---|---|
| 72% | 9 |
| 75% | 34 |
| 77% | 155 |
| 80% | 11 |
| 82% | 181 |
| 85% | 415 |
So the majority of listed Chinese institutions sit in the two highest bands — 82% and 85%. If you are near the lower end of that distribution, the distance between your average and the top band is larger than it looks, and the realistic move is to check the English requirements and available places in your subject before deciding how many institutions to target.
Read these figures as tiers the university assigns, not as a ranking we are creating. The university publishes the band for each institution; we are simply describing how those bands distribute.
Which subjects and schools set a different bar
Some entries depart from the standard minimum for that band. The 80% figure appears as a subject-level minimum rather than a standard band minimum — for example for film studies, creative writing, art history, and geography in specific entries. Some entries also record subject strengths alongside the standard offer.
If your degree is in film studies, creative writing, or art history, do not read the band minimum as your number. Look at the subject-specific line for your institution in the same table.
What you should check yourself before you apply
- Open the University of St Andrews country requirements page for China on st-andrews.ac.uk.
- Find your awarding institution in the table.
- Note the band it sits in and the standard minimum for that band.
- Check whether a subject-specific minimum applies to you.
- Read the English language requirement for your degree level and confirm which tests and scores the university accepts.
- Check the study modes available in your subject, since not every programme is open to every mode.
- Confirm the intake year on the page matches the year you are applying to.
The requirements table and the English language pages are both maintained by the university, and requirements can change between intakes. Treat the figures above as the 2025 statement, not as a standing promise for a later entry.
