University of Hull(赫尔大学)China entry requirements: minimum scores for Chinese bachelor's degrees

Published:

Hull publishes its China-specific entry requirements for the 2024 intake, and the undergraduate thresholds differ by the route you apply through. If your strongest qualification is the national college entrance examination, the university lists a 高考 score of 67%; if you sit the provincial 会考 instead, the listed figure is 77%. For postgraduate study, Hull lists a 2:1 at 75% or a 2:2 at 70%, with an English requirement of 6.5.

Undergraduate year 1: every Chinese qualification Hull lists

Hull's own table groups several Chinese qualifications under the same heading, 本科大一 (first year of an undergraduate degree). None of them is presented as a foundation route.

Qualification route Requirement listed by Hull
高考 67%
会考 77%
高中均分 80%
中专、职校 80%
大专第一年 75%
本科第一年 70%
IB 28–30

The lowest of these listed figures is the 高考 threshold of 67%. The typical route for a student coming straight from high school is the 高考 or 会考 line; if you already hold some higher-education credit, the applicable line is the one for that qualification.

Foundation courses

Foundation is a separate category from undergraduate year 1, and Hull describes it differently. Business, Law and Engineering foundation courses are run by its partner, ONCAMPUS Hull. For other foundation courses, the university states that it generally accepts completion of Senior Secondary School Year 3 with a 60% average grade, and Senior Secondary School Year 2 with a 70% average grade. Note that these are qualifications completed, expressed as average grades — not the national exam percentages listed above.

English requirements

The university lists an English requirement of 6.5 for postgraduate study. For the undergraduate foundation and undergraduate year 1 rows, Hull shows a slash rather than a stated score. If you are applying at undergraduate level, the published table does not give you a number to check against; confirm the expected standard directly with the university rather than assuming the postgraduate figure applies.

How to check your own position before you apply

Work through the table line by line against the qualification you actually hold, rather than against the lowest number in it. Then confirm three things with Hull before you commit:

Finally, note that these figures are from the university's 2024 entry requirements. Requirements can change between intakes, so treat the published table as the thing you verify against, not as a standing offer.
