The University of Glasgow (格拉斯哥大学) evaluates Chinese bachelor's degrees against three internal bands for 2027 postgraduate taught programmes. The lowest threshold is 75% for a UK 2:1 equivalent (Band A); the highest is 85% (Band C). Your university’s band determines the exact average you must present.
How the band system works
Glasgow assigns every recognised Chinese university to Band A, Band B or Band C. The band dictates the minimum average for both a 2:1 and a 2:2 UK degree equivalent:
| University Band | 2:1 equivalent (minimum average) | 2:2 equivalent (minimum average) |
|---|---|---|
| Band A | 75% | 70% |
| Band B | 80% | 75% |
| Band C | 85% | 80% |
These percentages are the university’s own figures, taken from its 2027 China entry requirements table.
Which band applies to your degree
The university does not publish a public lookup tool that names each institution’s band. The full list of recognised Chinese universities and their assigned bands is held by the admissions office. To confirm which band your university falls into, you must check the official “Accepted Chinese University List 2027” or contact the admissions team directly.
Do not assume your university’s band based on its domestic ranking or reputation. Only the university’s own list is authoritative.
Accepted study modes
Degrees awarded through the following pathways are accepted for admission, provided the awarding institution is on the recognised list:
- Standard four-year bachelor’s programmes
- “2+2” and “3+1” joint programmes where the final degree is awarded by an overseas recognised university
- “4+0” transnational programmes delivered in China by an overseas recognised university
- Top-up degrees from recognised overseas institutions
No study mode is explicitly blocked in the 2027 policy; the key condition is that the degree-granting university appears on Glasgow’s accepted list.
English language requirements
Applicants must meet Glasgow’s standard English language requirements unless they qualify for a waiver. A waiver applies if, within six years of graduation, you:
- Completed at least two years of full-time undergraduate study (or at least nine months of full-time master’s study) in a UKVI-defined majority English-speaking country — including English-medium Canadian institutions — and obtained the relevant degree, or
- Completed the overseas portion of a “2+2” or “3+1” programme in a UKVI-defined majority English-speaking country
The UKVI country list is maintained at www.gov.uk/student-visa/knowledge-of-english. If you do not meet a waiver condition, you must submit an approved test (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, etc.) at the level required by your chosen programme.
Programme-specific requirements
Some taught master’s programmes impose additional academic prerequisites — for example, specific core modules that must appear on your transcript. These requirements are set at programme level, not university level. Always check the individual programme page at https://www.gla.ac.uk/postgraduate/taught/ before applying.
How to self-check before applying
- Confirm your bachelor’s university is on the University of Glasgow’s recognised Chinese university list for 2027.
- Identify the band assigned to that university (Band A, B or C).
- Calculate your weighted average using your official transcript.
- Compare your average against the 2:1 or 2:2 threshold for that band.
- Verify whether your target programme lists extra module prerequisites.
- Determine if you qualify for an English language waiver; if not, book an accepted test.
- Submit your application through the university’s postgraduate portal once all conditions are met.
Final admission decisions rest with the University of Glasgow admissions office. Meeting the minimum average does not guarantee an offer.
