If you hold a Chinese bachelor's degree and are applying to 巴斯大学(University of Bath) for2027 entry, the number to check first is the country score table. Bath's2027 entry requirements group Chinese institutions into three lists and publish a required average for each of three degree bands.
The published scores for China
Bath expresses Chinese degree averages as decimals, mapped to UK percentage equivalents.
| China list | 2:1 / Upper Second (UK 60%) | Good 2:2 / Good Lower Second (UK 55%) | 2.2 / Lower Second (UK 50%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 universities | 0.67 | 0.62 | 0.62 |
| A2 universities | 0.7 | 0.65 | 0.62 |
| A3 and other universities | 0.75 | 0.7 | 0.67 |
Read that table with the university's own tier words intact: these are list labels and degree-band labels used by Bath. The table does not label any individual institution, and this page does not assign any institution to a list — check which list your awarding institution sits in against Bath's own published materials.
The lowest figure in the table is 0.62. It appears twice: for the Good 2:2 / Good Lower Second band on the A1 list, and for the 2.2 / Lower Second band on both the A1 and A2 lists. The typical figure most applicants will be working to is the 2:1 / Upper Second column, where the three lists read 0.67, 0.7 and 0.75.
Which departments ask for more than the country average
The country table is a floor, not the whole decision. Bath's programme pages add course-level conditions on top of it, and these differ sharply by subject area.
Several departments set explicit subject prerequisites rather than only a mark. Economics-related MSc and MRes routes are described as strict on the need for an undergraduate economics or maths background, naming microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, statistics, calculus and algebra. Financial Mathematics with Data Science is described as currently the most rigorous Master's in the Department of Maths, with mathematics or a joint mathematics degree the typical or preferred background.
Psychology routes require a psychology degree; Applied Clinical Psychology additionally wants high marks equivalent to 2:1 in research methods, statistics and dissertation. Sports Physiotherapy requires you to be a qualified and experienced physiotherapist, and Football Medicine requires a qualified medical doctor. Conservation of Historical Buildings expects a degree related to the built environment.
Some routes are more flexible than their neighbours. Sustainability & Management states your degree can be in any discipline. Decarbonisation and its variants consider a wide variety of backgrounds, preferably with a numerate element but not necessarily advanced. Management accepts any discipline except business or management subjects.
Study modes to rule out before you apply
The 2027 requirements table for Bath's taught postgraduate courses excludes online programmes. That exclusion is stated in the table heading itself, so it applies at the level of the whole published course list rather than to a single programme name.
Where the English requirement bites
For most applicants the standard applies as published on the programme page. Two Chinese-relevant streams are explicit: Interpreting and Translating (Chinese Stream) and Translation and Professional Language Skills both require the English requirement to be met at the point of application, not later.
There is also a defined exception attached to the 2+2 route. If you completed at least one full academic year of study in a UKVI-recognised English-speaking country, the English language requirement is usually waived for that route. For 2+2 applications generally, you supply the marks for your final two years of study at the awarding institution, meeting that country's own entry standard — a UK 2:1 or Good 2:2 equivalent.
How to self-check before you apply
- Find your awarding institution's list label in Bath's own country table.
- Read the figure on the row for the degree band you hold or expect to hold.
- Open the specific programme page and read the prerequisites line for that course.
- Check whether that course sits inside the exclusion the published table applies to online programmes.
- For the Chinese Stream in Interpreting and Translating, or for Translation and Professional Language Skills, confirm the English requirement is met at the point of submission.
- For 2+2 entry, gather your final two years of marks, and check whether a year of study in a UKVI-recognised English-speaking country applies to you.
The programme pages also carry personal-statement requirements that carry weight in review — several MRes routes state that applicants must provide a personal statement in accordance with the requirements on the programme page, and one MRes in Psychology additionally requires a research proposal and the name of an agreed project supervisor.
